look of the day: summer daze

Every year around this time I'm reminded of the absolute beauty of the late summer sun. There's nothing better for the soul than a bit of sun. Basking in the sun, watching it make it's way from the early morning east to the deep west is to watch our world in motion-.. There is nothing I love more than being able to soak up the sweet summer nature of our earth. Which is exactly what I did on this day.

To be honest, I didn't dress totally right for the summer weather. I get warm pretty easily and so even just walking three blocks to get lunch had me searching for a spot of shade. In my defense, it was a humid and windless day! Anyway, despite getting a little warm I really like this outfit.

I've had this skirt for a while now and as any fashion obsessed girl does I have searched multiple times on Pinterest for "suede skirt outfit." Of course this search yielded a whole bunch of super cute brown suede skirts, all of which had me searching my favorite sites for one to add to my closet.

Although this had me reaching for my wallet, it didn't give me much inspiration as my skirt is black. Ultimately I think the reason I paired these two together was the 70s vibe I get from both pieces. If a suede mini skirt is going to attach itself to any decade its the 1970s. And- don't ask me why- something about this floral pattern gives me a 70s vibe as well. So when I put them together it worked. I tied the top at the waist for a fun accent and voilĂ  the look was complete.

Normally, I'd wear my flat, black slides with this look, however I just got a new pair of short heeled pink slides that I thought looked absolutely perfect with the look. I just adore this look and it's largely in part of the fact that I used a few older pieces to create a brand new look. That's always to fun to do and feels like such an accomplishment.

Hope you enjoyed this look of the day!

  1. The way the summer sun illuminates everything in the early morning and late afternoon can be very pretty. Your photos taken in the late afternoon sun turned out beautifully!
I especially enjoy it whenever I see local wildlife in the early morning and pretty sunsets in the early evening.
I love the colour of the floral print on your blouse - your outfit photos are great.
Your hair, hairstyle, eyes, mascara, lips and lipstick all look beautiful.
